Hi, my name is Angela Baker. I made my Cursillo weekend in July of 2003. I would like to share with you how my Cursillo experience has changed me and how Christ works in my life today as a result. When I was younger, I always heard the word “Cursillo” and always wondered what it was all about but I knew one day I would be granted the experience for myself. Finally my day came and I was asked to go on the weekend. It was a difficult decision for me because I had to sacrifice so many things that were already planned that weekend. I asked God for guidance and in the silence of my thoughts, I believed that I was being called and that God had this great plan for me. I remember being nervous but I knew that Christ would guide me and help me with what I needed. We arrived at the weekend. I hugged my cousin tightly because I did not want her to leave but I knew I was going to be okay. During those three days, I found myself becoming friends with the other women on the weekend. It was an experience that we all shared together. I felt a sense of security and trust. I shared stories and inspirations. I felt like I was on fire, shining like a radiant star. God’s fire and light was there around me. I looked forward to every talk and every discussion with great hope and enthusiasm, always wondering what was going to happen next. As my weekend came to a close I was overwhelmed with the love that was passed to me by others. I laughed with others, cried with others and shared one of the most important things with everyone: the Love of God. I took so much with me from that weekend and I wanted to know what I could do with all of it. I have taken part in Ultreya & Leader School and was asked to be on the Ultreya team. I felt honoured to take part and be involved. I wanted to be everything I could be under the direction of Jesus, my great leader and protector. I have a special glow that has never left me; a glow so powerful that nothing in the world could destroy it. God is truly with me in all that I do. He has never deserted me and he is more in my life today than ever before. I now realize the great things he can do and strive to bring others close to him as well. He has touched my life in so many ways; through family, friends, and strangers that have become friends. He has taken me away from the darkness and shadows of my past and has led me to a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s my tunnel to freedom. I can honestly admit, I lost faith in him long ago and wondered why he would not have rescued me sooner. Living my life is a challenge every day and I have to continue to learn how to survive, but I know that He is always with me. I just have to listen to him knocking, and let him in. I thank God for bringing my aunt and uncle into my life. If it were not for them, I would never really know who God is or what Cursillo is. God sent them to me as a gift. He works in mysterious ways that help us to grow in His love.
Ever since my Cursillo I have had an open heart to his teachings. I have this special energy and love for people that I did not have before. It was a wonderful experience that I will continue to live out in my everyday life. God will call me and give me direction and I will follow His lead and He shall set me free! For I was lost, but now, I am found!
